Sixteen-year-old Sam, a foster child who’d been in and out of bad situations most of his life, comes to live with John and Abbie Grayson in their Franklin, Tennessee home. The Graysons, a secure, faith-filled couple in their fifties, take Sam in as an emergency placement that stretches on for longer than expected. Under their guidance, Sam learns to trust God and people again. A sense of security and peace takes hold, and Sam thrives into early adulthood.
Sam finds himself on his own again in his early twenties, due not only to his choices but also the return of unsavory people from his past. He allows doubt and insecurities to take over and becomes disillusioned by perceived promises from God. In his quest for truth, Sam uncovers lies and secrets that have the capacity to destroy him and all that he believes to be true.
